Antananarivo – Andasibe
Morning drive heading to Andasibe where tourists are expected to see and meet the biggest lemur known as the Indri (indri indri). Andasibe is a rainforest area covered of 810 hectares. Upon arrival, afternoon visit at the unavoidable VOI reserve, which is managed by the local community, the reserve is an untouched paradise for endemic animals and plants, where the visitors can easily spend a whole day enjoying nature, some groups of Indris can be watched in their natural habitat, and its white-headed relatives, the diademed sifakas, often jump between the tree tops. Some other lemurs such as woolly lemurs can also be seen. Andasibe – Antananarivo
After breakfast, embark on an adventure to Analamazoatra Reserve to seek out Madagascar’s largest lemurs, the Indri indri, known locally as “babakoto” or panda lemurs. Their haunting calls resonate through the forest, offering a unique wildlife experience just a short drive from your hotel. A leisurely forest walk presents numerous opportunities to encounter not only the indri but also other lemur species such as the golden sifakas and eastern woolly lemurs. Keep an eye out for endemic bird species and reptiles like the Parson’s chameleon and tiny nose-horned chameleons. Amber mountain – Diego
This morning, we dedicate our time exploring the park in search of diverse fauna and flora species. Amber Mountain Park, located twenty kilometers from the port, is a haven for lemurs, sacred waterfalls, and vibrant vegetation. As Madagascar’s first national park, Montagne d’Ambre offers a trekking adventure to witness various lemur species, the world’s smallest and rarest chameleon, as well as sea and land turtles. Later, we journey to Grand Cascade, a stunning waterfall cascading into a natural swimming pool. After our exploration, we return to Diego for an overnight stay at Grand Hotel, Hôtel de la Poste (top), Hotel Victoria, or Jardin Exotique Hotel (high-midrange) on a bed and breakfast basis.
Diego – Ankarana
Early morning departure by 4WD towards Ankarana Reserve, pausing for a brief stop at Tsingy Rouge for a thirty-minute visit. Proceed to Ankarana for an afternoon exploration after lunch. Stay overnight at Iharana Bush Camp, Ankarana Lodge (luxury), or Relais d’Ankarana, Kozobe Hotel (midrange), including breakfast.
Ankarana visit
We begin our exploration early in the morning, venturing into Ankarana National Park until midday. Ankarana is renowned for its diverse wildlife, including crowned lemurs, Sanford’s brown lemurs, and a variety of bird species. The park is especially famous for its unique limestone formations called ‘Tsingy’. Local biodiversity surveys have documented over 50 species of mammals, 40 reptile species, and 10 amphibian species. Bird enthusiasts can marvel at 96 different bird species, while marine enthusiasts can discover over 50 mollusk species and an abundance of snails. Additionally, the park is home to 14 bat species, representing a significant quarter of Madagascar’s bat population, inhabiting the underground caves of Ankarana.
